Hi everyone
I am currently looking to add a lot more rocks to my mbuna setup as I have noticed an increase in agression lately (they are all growing into teenagers!). I love the look of ocean rock and its allowance for fish to stake out their own territories but I am not so keen on the...
Hi everyone. I have a couple of blue dolphins, they were added to my tank together about a month ago. One is around 5 inches while the larger one about 6 inches. Up until a couple of days ago they just used to hang around the tank together fine. Watching them today the larger one is chasing the...
Sorry no I did not mean nitrate vanished overnight. I have been dosing ammonia at 3ppm for the past two weeks. It is always gone within 24 hours. My nitrate levels have always been around 30-40 ppm as I used filter media to help kick start the cycle. I have never seen any nitrites whatsoever...
So I was completely under the impression my tank had cycled. I have been fishlessly cycling for three weeks now and with large amounts of nitrate and ammonia disappearing after 24 hours I thought I was good to go. This morning I woke up, did a random test and nitrite was through the roof, over...
Sorry yes I should have elaborated. I know they are African Cichlids except the large one on the left. Just not sure what each fish is? Are the yellow ones Electric yellow labs?
Hi everyone.
I am currently researching my first Cichlid tank stocking and came across this photo. I love the colours present and may like to copy the stock. Can anyone identify the species present here and also tell me if this is a responsible collection of fish? Would they all get on? First...
I am almost ready for my first Cichlid tank and currently have a massive headache. The headache has been induced by the sheer number of species, each with their own scientific name and individual levels of water requirements and aggression levels!! After spending time ensuring my tank has cycled...
Oh don't worry I will put up a chair and camp next to the tank for a week!!
So there is every chance I may nearly be there? Can it fully cycle in only two weeks? Im just so worried I will fully stock and then have a massive nitrite spike or something in a week and wake to floating fishes
No this is the thing, I only have plastic plants so I can only assume it is the nitrite bac eating the ammonia unless there is something ELSE that can make it disappear? This is why I don't know where to go next because all the signs say I'm almost there with zero ammonia after 24 hours, little...
Thank you for your replies, I apreciate it. Can I just ask though, is it only the bacteria that reduces ammonia? If so then it must mean I have enough good bac to reduce the ammonia in 24 hours or is there another explanation for the ammonia drop each day? As you mentioned Two Tank I may not see...
Hi everyone. Firstly just wanted to say in the short time I have been a member here I have received some great advice and much more so as a lurker for quite a while so thanks to all the brains on the site that help us newbies. So now I have sucked up I will ask for more advice lol.
I have a...
Cool, thank you. I was just a bit worried as although my ammonia levels drop significantly within 48 hours of dosing I have not yet seen any nitrite really at all so did not know if this was good or bad.
Hey all.
I started a new setup a couple of weeks ago and am currently cycling. A week ago today I added some sludge squeezed from my dads established filter into the water and some gravel from the bottom. I have been dosing ammonia and took some measurements today.
Ammonia at 0
Nitrites at 0...
