Did not realize that about the tetras, lesson learned for next time.
No I was not talking about cleaning up waste, more the food that makes it past the other fish.
I have a 5 gallon tank with two neon tetra and two male guppies. According to what I read I am at the max of what I can keep in there. If I can squeeze one more in there I would like a bottom feeder that will help clean the gravel up, what kind of fish are out there that live on the bottom and...
Just wondering how often people feed there fish. I presently have two neon tetra and probably will be getting some guppies this weekend. I have read suggestions of feeding only once a day to some suggestion 3 times a day.
I have been feeding them once a day for the last week and so far they...
Once your tank is established and you have fish happily living inside how often or is it necessary at all to check the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.
May not matter after all. 24hrs ago I had 4 to 5PPM of ammonia in my tank, just checked it and my ammonia is near zero and my nitrites are near zero and I have some nitrates in the water. Looks like I will do a water change and put some fish in there and see how they do.
The tank is covered but like I said it is only a 5 gallon tank so losing a little water make it seems like the water is going down alot. The reason I asked because my water is below the water line on my heater so i turned the heater off but if I can add more water I can turn the heater back on.
Couple of questions.
Should my heater be on during the cycling?
My water level is starting to go down(5 gallon tank) is there any harm if I add some more water to the tank, I will treat the water before putting it in the tank.
Thanks to everyone's advice my tank is starting to cycle, after the first dose of ammonia and a few days the ammonia has dropped down to zero and there is a good amount of nitrites in the tank. I just added some more ammonia so now I wait again. I have read through the fishless cycle in the...
I started my fishless cycling today, after read a few things it was suggested to use 1 oz of ammonia for very 5 gallons. Since my tank is only 5 gallon I put in 1oz. I just tested the water to see where I was sitting and with my API test kit the water turned blue. I am guessing I put in to...
Where would you be able to find pure ammonia. I am from Canada and it seems alot of people on here are from the UK, just need some ideas on where to look.
I think I am going to try a fish in cycle once more and prepare for daily water changes. I did a 75% change today and it took me only 5 to 10 minutes so not to bad. What is a good hardy fish to start with, I have heard that the zebra danio were a hardy fish, is there any other options. Would...
I was considering continuing with a fish in cycle. I may look into a betta, I got one from a wedding and he lived in a bowl for 5 months without me doing anything for him, i know he probably didn't like me for it.
So I changed the water and the ammonia level has come down to roughly .5, I did another 50% water change to help lower it some more. I also tested the nitrites which were at zero, how long into the cycling does it take to get readings of nitrites.
