Using Lexan For A Tank Lid

Tank building is one thing. I just meant for the lid/cover and/or cover for the lighting.

Using Lexan For A Tank Lid

I went to my local hardware store to pick up a small sheet of Lexan. It's extremely durable, doesn't yellow, and (big bonus) I can cut it myself. I've done this before to make a lid for a tank I sold on here a while ago. Anyway, this time I noticed on the label that it "blocks harmful UV...

Compatible Plants With An Undergravel Filter?

I agree... floating plants and plants attached to wood. Also putting plants into pots or potting plants into crevices of wood/decor with substrate.

46 Gallon (Gal) Bow (Bow Front)

After some searching, I found this... Replacement hinge strips, back strips, and (even) handles! So the parts are out there. I'm sure your LFS would have the parts too. http://www.drsfoster...u=0070591000000 And for reference, below are the Versa Tops that these replacement parts are...

Toys R Us Play Sand Warning!

I use pool filter sand. Mine is a light tan color with some variagated grains in it... a little black and brown and white grains. It didn't need any cleaning, plus it's heavy enough to gravel vac! It maybe slightly courser than some people like, but I prefer it since I find play sand too...

What Fishy Things You Getting For Xmas!

I think I'm good. This year I already upgraded from a 29 to a 55, got rainbow fish, and last month got a new comfy couch so I can lounge, watch the tank, and listen to music. EDIT: Gorgeous dog in the avatar, mmanist!

    Lids

A good LFS should be able to make you a glass lid or order you a lid with the dimensions you need. Then you can just place whatever lighting you choose ontop of the glass.

46 Gallon (Gal) Bow (Bow Front)

For a bow front, I would think about doing the top as three sections. The front portion (bow part) covered with glass lids for easy feeding. The middle portion (majority of the rectagular area) covered with glass and lighting. The back portion with 1" to 3"wide black strip (however much is your...

Toys R Us Play Sand Warning!

I have seen play sand with warnings of "Not for use with aquariums" or something similar. When I inquired about it with the manufacturer, they said it was because they also bag fertilizer and treated soils, so there might be cross contamination. This happened a few years ago, but be sure...

    Is My Light Too Bright?

I don't want to rush you into stocking your tank too much, too soon. Just sharing with you my recent experience. Hopefully, these guys just need some "settling in" time, but if not, when you add more fish later that might help calm them.

    Is My Light Too Bright?

My rummynose were extremely skittish when I moved them from a 30 gallon to a 55 gallon. The bigger open space made them uncomfortable it seemed. But then I added rainbow fish and they're happy again. I guess the rainbow fish are dither fish for them since the rainbows are very forward and...
