Apparently I need to keep the ceramic media in the tank unless I completely replace the filter which I can't afford to do at the minute.
I have rocks made into a cave sort of thing but maybe I'll try adding another hiding place for him.
I have to have ceramic media because I have a biorb life tank so covered them with large pebbles.
I bought 7 bags of them and tried to place them carefully to avoid as many gaps as I could but now and again my betta sneaks into the gaps and gets wedged between the glass and the pebbles and...

Readings are PH 7.6, Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 5.
I have some rock bought from the fish store and boiled along with a small piece of bogwood which was also boiled, so my question is are they ready to put in the tank along with one or two live plants before I put some shrimp in tomorrow?
Got the API liquid test kit and here are my readings after 5 or 6 days.
PH 7.6
Ammonia 0.25
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
What should I make of these? I was very happy with how things were going until the nitrate. How come it's so low?
Yep, will be posting pics when it's up. Here it is looking rather empty at the minute. I have a small piece of bogwood soaking and just washed some rock to put in as well. I'll also be putting in a couple of real plants and hoping they survive with this substrate/LED light.

Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I can get my hands on a liquid based test kit tomorrow and post the results and see...

I got a couple of small sachets with it but thought the Tetra AquaSafe was to be added AFTER the Tetra SafeStart.
I also bought a bottle of both...
