Any ideas on what I could replace the plec with.
I realised I was solely looking at the gold nugget plec thinking it would look after the bottom of my tank.
I'm just coming to the end of my fishless cycle and had live plants in from the off.
I don't know what the general view on it is but mine has gone fine
If there were no restrictions like water type and compatibility I think I would like
Clown killifish
Honey gourami
Kuhli loach
Bolivian ram
Guppy
Gold nugget plec
However although I am aware there are different types of gold nugget plec available I believe the only ones I can readily get do...
That's what i thought might be the case fluttermoth about the starter fish not being relevant after a fishless cycle but didnt want to make the assumption.
My ph is a touch on the higher side between 8 and 8.2
I know the killifish prefer a softer water but my lfs have them in hard water and...
So I have a 125litre tank coming to the end of its fishless cycle it is reduced about 5ppm of ammonia to 0ppm ammonia and 0 ppm nitrites within twelve hours last night.
Now I'm getting close to the best bit adding my first fish and I fear I may have been given some wayward advice on the fish...
Thank you yanks.
So I just need to go and buy a bunch of fish now right...... :P
No no being serious, I have now redosed the ammonia up to 5ppm with the plan to test in the morning within 10 - 12 hours. If its back down to 0ppm for ammonia and nitrites am I right in saying I do a large water...
Patience is clearly a huge part of doing a fishless cycle because I have got in from work today and done a test and what do you know......
Nitrites are reading the big 0ppm :good:
Out of nowhere too, tested yesterday evening and was still showing deep purple.
Ok so 5 days on and I'm still in the same situation. I dose ammonia to 2-3ppm and It's gone to 0 within 12 hours yet my nitrites and nitrates just are not changing.
I tried a 50% water change yesterday morning and it does not seem to have helped.
Should I do a larger water change?
I have...
I would have liked to leave it be and watch it add more and more pieces to its protective casing but the plant it was choosing to use is still quite young and trying to establish so I did have to remove it.
These questions must get asked so often but I appreciate the patience and help on this forum regardless of how many times a question is asked.
So my fishless cycle I thought was going really well, I started off with nitrites and nitrates right from the off. It was still taking a day or just...
Thank you both for your replies. It does indeed seem to be a caddis fly larva, and although I would enjoy watching it progress through its stages of life it has already done some damage to one of my plants. It appears there are different types of caddis fly larva and the ones that make their own...
