Ok some changes ,more evolving with the big tank. I have no more stem plants. They needed too much pruning and what replaced them are slow growing masses of moss and Java fern and rosettes of various sword plants. If it sounds more like a Japanese Garden its because it does look like that. I...
In 48 hours he went from hiding at a surface corner...his colors were pale to losing his balance and then dead.
I have 8 other Bozys in there left,a trio of getting larger and larger Clown loaches, and a few other smaller fish. If it wasn't for a trio of Giant Danio's I might be overrun with baby...
I feed them beef heart in gelatin, shrimp slightly cooked everyday and Tetramin color flake food morning and before the lights go out. If I remember I toss in extra cooked veggies we have. The flake food is just a pinch, the others all they can eat once a day.
Its the first Bozy to die on me from...
I lost my SECOND largest M. bozemanii today. It was an even 6". I have one male thats about 6 1/4 and deeper bodied.
I don't have any idea why it died at over 4 years old. It showed pale colors yesterday and today was dead.
Sort of ironic that in that big tank? One rainbow fry has survived to...
Mark Davis of "MD fishtanks" on Youtube put me on to this moss. It is rampant when other mosses are losing ground. Its also dense. You prune to keep it at bay not to make any more thicker. Its all over my 240 and even as I lapsed on adding iron? It didn't care. No need for iron for this moss in a...
Thats about right. The aquarium has evolved in five years. Plants that get along thrive, plants that need special care are not part of the group any longer. Just iron is added.
I've never had this kind of status quo in a plant tank before.
Also the nine big Rainbows, three Clown Loaches, trio of...
You know I set up this aquarium in May 2018. I have to admit,I don't want to spend any more than I have and the fish I have are all I intend to have. The Boesemani@5+ inches have reached full size. Only the Clown Loaches are still growing.
So,why risk them with new fish and possible diseases...
You might add iron and that might make the plants more resistant to the algae. Seachem for most people is best since you don't need very much for the average aquarium with a light load of fish.
That aquarium looks nice,I wouldn't get too drastic on it. Tweaks.
Epsom salts are a good safe additive..good for plants color and good for fish slime to ward off bacteria. The LFS owner told me decades ago he tosses in some to every tank and he always of course had fish coming and going.
I have a 240 and went with boesemani Rainbows- half blue and half orange. Tend to be hardy and long lived. You could grow natural aquarium with plants and small fish- just that they have a tendency to die young compared to larger fish like the Rainbows. Altum Angels was my backup choice..they...
Dropsy and I don't know if there is a cure for that. Use epsom salts and go with an antibiotic that says treats that problem. Plus the usual raise water temps and make partial changes of water.
