pH is 7.0... I read that article a few days ago... had trouble finding ammonia with no additives.. got some from Ace Hardware (mentioned in another post) but didn't feel safe using it as it really didn't list any ingredients....  It said there was 15% of something which I forgot. I can go look...

Hi Everyone !   I am currently cycling with fish. Tonight is the end of day number 3, and I am beginning to get Ammonia. It is reading .25 ppm. At what ppm does Ammonia start to be bad for the fish. At what level do I start with water changes to lower it ???   Also same question for Nitrites.  ...

Hi All !!   I was reading Clown Loaches prefer either sand, or fine gravel. Not knowing this I set my tank up with a course gravel. I'm wondering how important the size of the gravel is. I will change the gravel if I have to... not something I look forward to!!!    Thanks,   Steve  

Thanks JD...   Plenty of reading there... it does look like I am being too particular about my water. I've always been told how difficult it is to raise Discus. Now I'm learning that ain't so !!!  Many Thanks to you and all the others who have helped me !

Ok Thanks for all the help...    The water in my freshwater tank with nothing added to R/O water except Kent R/O Right... pH 6.8, TDS 67   How can I measure the KH (Carbonate Hardness)   I'm using the API GH & KH test kit. Is that a proper kit ?  Reason being I'm supposed to count the drops...

OK.. Now I'm more confused than ever !!!  The more I read the more confused I get !!  I'm thinking I need some kind of remineralization product, a pH up or down, and a pH buffer... which I may not need if my hardness is high ???  Do I have that right ??  I'm figuring there must be an order you...

Fish Herder...  I never had my tap water tested.  I went to a business where they make R/O water. 21 stage... closest to distilled (he said).  He goes to homes, business, installs filters, advises, tests water, etc. He told me where I live the town's water supply is a "3". Some of the water...

NObody O The Goat...  the chart with the water hardness test kit ((API)  says...  GH & KH Conversion Chart....  # of drops to change KH from blue to yellow... my R/O  took 1 drop...  same with GH...  so the chart says  1 drop = (little 0)dKH  is 1 degree....   and ppm GH/KH = 17.9  Hope this...

Thanks for the ideas.... I wouldn't have a problem with the tap water, except that I had my tap water tested. On a scale of 1 to 10.. 10 being the best quality... mine comes in at a 3.  I'm just a little hesitant on putting any % of my tap water into the tank. I did visit a new (to me) fish...
