I wouldn't go for putting him in with the skirttails, anything that catches a betta eye will attact him and remind him to protect his plot, fish with little fins and a small size i think are best as the betta doesn't see them as competition, i have some skirt tails and i wouldn't risk them with...

Hi, i have my betta with sone white cloud mountain minnows, he is a right fistey fish and nipped the hell outa anything that went near him, i set up a new tank then added the mountain minnows.....3 then 3 over a month then finnaly agged Rambo lol he desrves that name btw! they all get along fine...
