Nikky - the windows are darkly tinted :blink: It's still letting in too much light though. Especially in the morning because the sun rises from the east. Pictures would be great Paul! I'm curious to see if the painted sides look tacky. It's my office tank so it has to look somewhat decent.

My 80 gallon brackish sits right near a window and gets loads of sunlight which = loads and loads of algae! I have to scrape it every couple of days. I was thinking of painting the back and sides but I am unsure of how it will turn out. Does anyone have the sides painted? I'd love to see...

Do you have any fish in the tank? You don't really need to add any of that extra stuff. Ammonia is all that's required. As for the algae bloom, can't help ya there. Remember, once you reach 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites, you'll be doing a water change. That should get rid of the cloudiness.

What is your Nitrite reading? I had a similar experience when I cycled my 80 gallon. I was advised to stop adding ammonia because it was suggested that I had overdosed. Don't add any more ammonia for now. Once you see the ammonia levels start to drop, start adding half of the original...

Yes I agree with FreddyK. Different brands of ammonia have different concentrations of ammonium hydroxide so there's no definite formula. Just add enough to reach 3-5ppm. And do this slowly, you don't want to add too much.
