definitely would do a reef, ton of live rock and a ton of coral. clownfish, blennys, damselfish, shrimp etc. lots of cool critters you can have in a big reef.

saltwater is definitely more difficult and high maintenance but the pay off is worth it. IMO, if you’re new to saltwater get a bigger tank because the parameters and salinity are a lot easier to keep in check with a higher volume of water.

mine would have to be parrot cichlids. some people think they just look like a blob of scales but i’ve seen some at my LFS and i think they’re really cute lol

another quick update, i got rid of all the livestock save the snails, just didn’t have the time to care for it anymore. it’s still setup and running but it just has a few plants left. i’m about to move apartment in the coming month so maybe after things settle down i can start that nano...

as others have said 5 gallons isn’t a whole lot of room at all for any fish. if you would be interested, you can make a super cool shrimp tank with only shrimp and snails as livestock. make it heavily planted and do frequent water changes and you should be good to go :)
