Decision taken to euthanize the Tetra as it had stopped feeding and it's position had worsened to the point where it was hanging almost vertically in the water. For all the great experiences this hobby gives you, sometimes it hands you some properly crap ones as well.

So far so good, the patches of BBA are definitely shrinkng and the other (new) plants in the tank are growing at a furious rate. Fab stuff. Next step is to find a better diffuser and move to a larger CO2 container (fire extinguisher for example).

Sadly the fish developed a more serious case of popeye in the other eye so given that the meth blue was no longer improving the situation and the fish had stopped eating or indeed moving about much, the decision was taken this evening to euthanase it. Sad but I felt we had run out of...

OK, well bogwood and plants is one approach - the nice thing about this hobby is there are so many to choose from! If you really want 'coral' why not get some artificial ones - cheaper AND safer!   N

Marine coral in a freshwater tank would die in short order probably polluting the tank horribly in the process not to mention the fact that you would be adding a quantity of (essentially) seawater to a freshwater system - I definitely wouldn't go down this route. Dead coral might be OK although...

As I understand it, the symtoms of dropsy are usually that the body or belly of the fish swells up and this leads to the scales sticking out, hence it's occasional name 'pine cone disease' like this poor chap (not my image);     From what you describe I don't think dropsy is the problem.   So...

I've been having a ton of problems with BBA too, so after reading up on here, I have started adding CO2 and Seachem Flourish Excel to my (125l) tank after scraping off as much of the BBA as possible and siphoning it out of the tank. I also replaced all the plants as there was nothing in the tank...

Four days now and the area affected by the fungus and the swelling is definitely shrinking. Will continue treatment until all symptoms are cleared though.

I'd do another water test first - Need to check for Ammonia (NH3), Nitrite (NO2) and Nitrate (NO3) as a minimum - If the tank has cycled correctly and you're on top of the maintenance regime, you should have zero ammonia and nitrite and just a trace of nitrate. If the ammonia or nitrite levels...

So two days in and things are changing. What I thought was a worm turned out to be fungus but the Meth. Blue looks to be starting to get that under control so am a little more hopeful now.

Have 'bitten the bullet' and bought a small tank setup on the way home from work. Will be hospitalising the angel later on (need to get tankette set up first). Hopefully this will do the trick. Have also bought some plastic plants so it's got a bit of cover. Fingers crossed.   N
