As I posted a while back bought 2 platies at the beginning of the year now have about thirty in a 3ft tank with some guppies - managed to give a few away but could do with getting rid of some more or I will be overstocked. Dont seem to have any problem surviving.
wouldnt worry too much as I posted a while ago I bought a pair of platties in january in a community tank with some guppies now have about thirty and the guppies keep dropping fry as well my problem is what to do with them all. !!
Well I bought a pair of platties from the LFS 8 months ago put them in a tank with a few guppies didnt give the fry any special treatment and now look !!
Wellcome to the club came back into the hobby last year stupidly bought some guppies to start am now getting overrun bought a pair of platties in January and already have 15 young what to do with them all !!!
Sounds a bit like me came back into the hobby after 20 years - things I did in the old days never heard of cycling, used box filters just chucked the filter floss and charcoal out every few months and replaced with new wonder any fish survived.
I have the same problem bought half a dozen six months ago now they are breeding like mad trouble is you cant tell the sex until its too late and they are breeding seriously thinking of culling some.
I got a 12 gal tank a few months ago came with a power filter which I found far too powerful changed it for a cheap sponge filter - looking at the experts on youtube quite a few use sponge filters if its good enough for them.
I got half a dozen guppies six months ago fry appeared after 2 weeks (must have been pregnant when I bought them) now the babies are having babies - already had to set up a second tank don't think wifey will let me have any more - would like some different fish but don't want to overstock what...
