    Flashing

Sorry for the delay in response! I hope everything is ok with the tank. I just did water changes every 2-3 days, halved feeding and was patient. Didnt lose a single fish since the flashing post was made - i lost a couple early on but i dont think they were related. I also bought new flake food...

    Low light plants

Thank you both! With the fern im just going off what my memory tells me. Its planted in the substrate near the filter outlet so doesnt have plant cover so gets lots of light. Its tripled in size over the past month and a half. RO is required as my tapwater is so hard i dont really have cups of...

    Low light plants

Thanks for the advice! Plenty of choice :) I'll keep my eye out for some at a good price. Water wisteria seems a good bet - looked for some of that before and ended up with some water fern (dont know the name) which is thriving in my tank. In reality i need to add water ferts but never know what...

    Low light plants

Hey, I have a corner of my tank that needs a good 25-30cm tall plant but it is a very low light part of the tank thanks to my frogbit. Any suggestions? Low tech is preferable. I have 4 degree KH and 8 degree GH water, no ferts, no CO2 and lights (standard stock flourescent tube) ar on 8 hours...

    Flashing

Just incase anybody manages to find this thread when searching the issue is SOLVED. solution: Lots of water changes and patience. I really think something was up as now they never flash. I may never know what it is but next time something similar happens I'll just follow the same method... It...

What type of gourami? Honey or thicklip?

I think I'm not going to risk adding others incase it is indeed a thicklip just because of the size of them. My tank is right on the minimum size limit according to that seriously fish link. Tis a handsome little guy/gal though! Very interactive with me too. Almost as interactive as my apisto...

What type of gourami? Honey or thicklip?

Haha so one vote honey gourami one vote thicklip ... Could it be a cross between the two? I still stand by the fact it doesnt have the rounded body shape of a honey gourami. But then it is rather small for a thicklip. I guess in 6 months time itll be obvious

What type of gourami? Honey or thicklip?

Evening all, A month ago i acquired the gourami in the attached pic. No idea on the type (was hoping for cherry barbs......). Cant decide if its a honey or a thicklip. Its about 1.5 inches long. I think female too. I just think its a bit of a funny shape for a honey gourami - more torpedo...

    Check my fish shopping list?

There is a chance the thicklip may not be the biggest fan of the odessas as they will be very active and potentially boisterous with each other. In reality with 8 chunky active fish like odessas (once theyve grown a bit) i think youll be fine without a centrepiece. Once youve had the odessas a...

    Check my fish shopping list?

Do not use a chemical pH modifier!!! This will cause swings in pH. I stable pH thats a little too high is better than one which fluctuates regularly. In my opinion dwarf gouramis are too much of a heart breaker due to dwarf gourami disease. See if you can get hold of a thick lip gourami! Theyre...

PH has been staying constantly around 7.4-7.6. So i out gassed my source water by leaving in a bucket - in all honesty i hadnt done it for a while. The pH matched the tank :) Fish are still doing v. Well. My concern has gone :) still the odd flash but no other symptoms... Gonna give it another...

    Sticky fins on my betta

What are you ammonia levels and nitrites looking like? If youve got no way to test yet i'd err on the side of caution and do another big water change today or tomorrow. Just before the water change maybe see if you can take a water sample to your fish store.

    Overrun With Snails

I second the use of assassin snails! I had about 20 pest snails so i added 2 assassins and in a couple of months the snail problem had gone :) 70l tank with a 60cm x 30cm footprint Id recommend 2 or 3 assassins :) theyre inexpensive, look super cool, require a mate to breed unlike pest snails...

    substrate choice

Just to add, how many apistos and of what sex are you planning? They get very territorial. Youre best having 4-5 caves and then 3-4 females will choose one each. You can then add one male. He'll patrol the tank guarding all of them. The females will keep their cave clean by fanning out waste...
