I love the snail shop. I have bought from them loads of times with great success. I can't praise them enough!! :nod:

He is probably just taking his time to acclimatise, he should be fine. Some can take about 24 hours before venturing out.

Apple snails should be ok with sand. My snail tank has sand and the only problem I have had is with the giant ones that struggle to grip it to turn themselves over if they fall awkwardly. I have never found any problems with babies or brigs in sand.

Thanks for your comments. He does seem well at the moment although I think he has a hair ball!!! He is on meds for cat flu at the moment so could not finish his last course of jabs before he left the centre. We are taking him back next week to re start the course. He seems to have settled in...

Snails aren't fussy. If you just put in 2-3 males I am sure you would get babies.

The one in that top pic looks like an apple snail but that definitely wouldn't lay eggs on the plants.

Apple snails lay their eggs above the water line so if your eggs are in the water it can't be them.

I know that mystery snail is is a name also given to apple snails so if this is what you are getting they are relatively easy to keep. I have an apple snail tank and it is all going great. I think at 1/2 an inch they will be too small to breed at the moment, they don't take long to grow though...

I would imagine that the cracks you descibe are from the growth of the snail. Sometimes Apple Snails go through a period of not growing and then when they start to grow their shells grow thinner and slightly weaker than before. This causes slight ridges in the shell that may look like cracks...
