Angel Fish Swimming At An Angle? - Severe Overfeeding

I had to go away for a few days and had my teenage nephews feed my fish for me while I was gone.  (3 days).  When I got back today the water in the tank was murky and I could tell that they had been severely overfed during this time.  My two angels looked a little lethargic and one is swimming...

Fish In Cycling - What I Have Learned.

I agree.  They were succeptible to it because they were weakened. Yes the gourami and black skirts are in the 5 gallon.  It is fully cycled and I change the water 50% twice a week.    I still have them.  Will post them for free on kijiji if they heal from ich - as feeder fish.

Fish In Cycling - What I Have Learned.

Over the past few months I have tried two methods of fish-in cycling and would like to share my experiences.   Tank # 1 - 5 Gallon with a gourami and some black skirt tetras. One dwarf gourami and 5 black skirt tetras purchased and added to the tank right away.  Tank was stocked to full capacity...

Do All Angelfish Grow Quite Large?

Thanks, very helpful.  I don't WANT smaller fish.  I'm happy with the conventional adult angel size, just making sure these will grow sufficiently.  And thakn you to both of you with advice on the tetras.... obviously not a good idea.  I may just keep the angels on their own.

Do All Angelfish Grow Quite Large?

I am not new to fishkeeping but have never kept angels.  I am currently cycling a tank in preperation for angels and am curious about their growth.  From what I read they grow in size quite rapidly and I know that adults can reach a number of inches in size but am curious if there are any that...

Fish-In Cycling. Fish Acting Funny Or Just My Imagination?

To answer a few questions: -I chose to fish-in cycle for the same reason many people choose to, not wanting to wait to stock the tank and a willingness to moniter water levels very very closely. -Overstocking.  Yes this tank is "overstocked" but not to the point that it is unmaintainable. I am...

Fish-In Cycling. Fish Acting Funny Or Just My Imagination?

I have decided to go with the fish-in cycling route for my 5 gallon and have been testing twice daily and doing a 50% water change whenever ammonia or nitrites are above 0.25 . I feel as though I have been very dilligent with my monitering and yet I think it is still having an effect on my fish...

Just A Sponge In A Filter?

Thank you Twotankamin, that was very helpful!  I am realizing that while a simple sponge filter (which I think I will DIY) will be effective but will require regular gragel vaccuming which is easy enough.

Just A Sponge In A Filter?

I have decided to revisit my childhood aquarium hobby and this time do things with proper research:)  I am up to date on aquarium cycling and well aware of how crucial it is for an aquarium to have healthy bacteria, so now my question comes to filtering.  My tank is FRESHWATER.   I terms of...

Buying A Homemade Aquarium - Recipe For Disaster Or Great Find?

Thanks guys.  It has now been sitting in the basement for almost two days and no leaks, appears solid!  Looks like now I am going to look into building a stand for it.

Will A Regular Skirt Tetra School With Long-Finned Skirt Tetras?

Purchased 5 long-finned skirt tetras about a week ago.  One of them looked particularly small and the guy at the pet store was going to net him out for me and replace him when he was catching them for purchase but I told him not to worry about it.  Upon arrival at home I looked a little closer...

Buying A Homemade Aquarium - Recipe For Disaster Or Great Find?

Thanks.  The glass is 5 mm and the silicone seams all look to be done well.  I just have nightmares of a glass panel completely coming off rather than a small leak, I'm sure that won't happens but of course we always assume the worst.  I'll give it a good few days test in the basement and if all...
