    Horrible Incident!

Thanks, yeah fish is now back to normal :good: Yeah, they use nets; but they are a very reputable and professional outfit, so I expect they use very fine nets, not of the same quality I used. Thanks to everyone, lesson learned; no harm done (fortunatly!) JJ

    Horrible Incident!

Thanks guys. Fish has recovered well, is swimming happily around the new setup showing no adverse effects. Must admit, all of my local lfs use nets for their marine fish, this is why I never thought much of using one, until now. I'm glad he has recovered, and I will not be using a net in the...

    Horrible Incident!

Hi, Today I moved my tank from the living room up to my bedroom. Took all day, got the tank all set up and up to temperature. Acclimatised my inverts and fish (clown and a bicolour angel) then went to net them out of the bucket they were in and put them in their new home. Clown went in no...

    T5 Wattage?

I have to admit, I thought the wattage on T5's was directly linked to the length, 39w = 3 foot etc.

    Tank Building / Design Advice

Think I may be caucious and use a tall outlet in the very corner of the tank. I planned on making the scape lead up to the top corner of the tank, as the tank will be in the corner of the room. So it should be invisible anyway. Thanks for the tip on the strainer! JJ

Also, just thinking about flood safety. I know in a closed loop system, if the pump fails then no water will be lost from the display, no issues at all! However, if there is a leak in the under tank plumbing, the tank would empty itself right down to the outlet pipe. Now, on the tank I linked...

    Tank Building / Design Advice

Right, few questions regarding the closed loop design. Been doing some research and got this far. Basically, I need to incorporate: (tank outlet) external inline heater inline media chamber (for rowaphos etc) skimmer return pump (tank inlet) ...under the tank, in a closed loop system. Heres...

    Tank Building / Design Advice

Just went through and costed both the sump and the closed loop systems, unfortunatly, don't think I can run a sump without compromising on other things which I need. Going to go closed loop, so have a listen and tell me what you guys think. 18x18x18 cube, two holes drilled in the bottom corner...

    Tank Building / Design Advice

Right, you may have just sold me BigC! That sump is well tidy considering it's size. (Beautiful tank mate, I read the journal last year when starting my first tank!) Would you reccomend the return coming from inside the weir box as you have it? Looks tidy. Do you have the dimensions of the weir...

    Tank Building / Design Advice

Thanks for that, I had read your stickied topic, but I wasn't sure exactly how the plumbing worked. Nice design, but I'm wondering if a weir box that size would be a bit dominating in a small cube tank? Hmmm. I'll have a think, but thanks BigC, very helpful! :good: On a side note, I found...

    Tank Building / Design Advice

Hi, thanks for the quick reply BigC. Lighting, I plan on using a single 150w MH, 14k bulb. I currently only have a v2 nano skimmer, in tank design, so thought replacing it with a HOB skimmer would keep the tank tidier. The reason I didn't plan for a sump was the small space in the cabinet...

    Tank Building / Design Advice

Hi. I'm planning on setting up a 18x18x18 cube tank in my bedroom, and moving all of the equiptment and livestock from the 36x12x15 downstairs into it. I have found a local tank building company who can build the tank to any spec I want (holes drilled, weir boxes, sliding coverglass etc). So...

    First Marine Experience

Thanks Seffie, yeah I'm abit gutted about the clown jumping, theres something sad about about a lone clown (male). (still amazed it managed to jump through the 1" square wiring gap, what are the chances on a covered tank? :sly: ) I had a toadstool leather frag in there a few months back, which...

    First Marine Experience

No one got any comments? Gonna head out to the large marine place across the tyne from me tomorrow; see what I can pick up. Decided what the upgrade will be, 18x18x18 cube tank, 150w mh, closed loop style system, to keep powerheads, heaters etc out of tank. Looking for a suitable tank now...
