I'm trying to go for red plants as well, so I would need bright light to supplement that. Guess I could try out the grow light I have and see how bright it makes the tank. I can't really see any plants in the background. Perhaps it feels this way as my tank is a cube?

I'm sorry to hear about his passing, may he Rest In Peace 🙏 I'm happy to be reassured I won't have problems with gas pockets, my layer won't even be reaching 6cm. I just am scared of the soils mixing, it's annoying 😅 The sand I got is pretty fine, like on a beach.

So I want to remove the current substrate next saturday. Need to dust off our old turkey baster, then pick off any shrimplets I can. Hopefully some will already be in the filter, but I need to save my remaining plants.

Will look into the Seachem one, thank you. I don't think my current Tropica ferts even do anything. And would you recommend me reworking the substrate? Using a coarse sponge to prevent soil mixing (or at least to some degree)? Just probably need to catch the shrimplets, as many as I can find :/
