    High Ammonia Please Help! Sos

That is why I wanted to mention the conditioner- It was worded bad, didnt know what other word to use maybe stabilize? I know that not all conditioners have these detoxifiers/ amm remover in them, but I rather be safe than sorry and say all- leting water sit for 24 hrs is not going to hurt.   I...

    High Ammonia Please Help! Sos

No i ment what i said. I might have worded it wrong- sorry   Taken from the company:   In regards to ammonia products, yes, they kill TSS. Any type, whether a chloramines remover or detoxifier, etc, anything that says it locks up ammonia or removes ammonia. Do not add TSS for 24 hours after...

    Filtration System

That would work with the bio capacity, but you have to think of swimming area and activity levels of the fish. These fish are active and would need more room to swim.  I would not go with a swordtail as they are very fast swimmers and prefer long tanks for bolting around, min 20 gal.  I would...

Your Opinion On The Best 5 Gallon Community

I used nutrafin cycle in a 3.65 gal tank once. It did seem to work and actually cycled the tank in a week. I put  my betta in the tank. Decided it was to small,  and upgraded to a 10- used the filter to cycle the new tank and it worked well to cycle so I would say that nutrafin does work. That...

    High Ammonia Please Help! Sos

Many people have mixed reviews on Tetra safe start, but I have used it and know many friends who have and it really helps kickstart the tank. I would change out 90% of water. Fill it up with clean treated water that has sat out for a day( to let the declorinator evap as it will kill TSS product)...

    Filter Media

I would say it depends on the fish load you put in. If you only plan to put 1 or 2 small fish - say a betta- it should be enough. If you plan to fully stock the tank or want fish with a higher bio load add more  media to it. If you add more it is only going to help.

Swordtails And Platies- Male Or Females

Have a 20 Gal community tank currently housing 1 male betta, 3 cory catfish, and 2 new swordtails- 1 male and 1 female.   I am looking to put in 2 platies to finish off my tank. I am wondering if I should get male or female platies for this tank. I dont know if 3 males(swordtail/ 2 platies)...

Bio Scrubber Tetra Whisper Internal Power Filter?

I have a bioscrubber in my filter as well. It seems to hold a lot of bacteria and i have not had any problems with it. My wisper is an internal 40 gal and is pretty quiet. Keeps my 20 Gal tank really clean!

    Slime And Film Over Water

Hi, I had the same problem in my betta tank. I put an air stone in. I put it at the surface of the water (about an inch deep) which worked perfectly! Helped keep the top of the water moving = no oily slime coat , yet did not disturb the water to much to bother my betta.

    New Tank Startup

Hi, You need to "feed your tank" with an ammonia source or all the good bacteria will die off and your tank will not fully cycle. These bacteria live off of the ammonia. Since there is not any fish in the tank you need to add ammonia some how in order to build the bacteria colonies up. You could...

Bioscrubber For Filter- Does It Work?

Hi,   does the bioscrubber in the wisper filter really work for keeping the good bacteria? They say to change the filter(filled with carbon) every month- but isnt this where the bacteria's live?   My question is when I change the old filter out for the new one will I loose all my good bacteria...
