Sponge plus HOB filter for 29 gallon with Betta

My 10 yo daughter is adamant that I get one that has adjustable flow. The one hob I have is big and not adjustable. So, since my sponge is a little small, I’m off to the store to get a hob that adjusts. Should I get one that is smaller- eg for a 20 gallon since I also have a sponge?

Sponge plus HOB filter for 29 gallon with Betta

I have an imaginarium sponge 20 and an airpump suitable for my tank size. Here’s a pic of the sponge. So I’m thinking I get another HOB that is smaller in size - like for a 20 gallon. Make sense?

Sponge plus HOB filter for 29 gallon with Betta

Thanks! Should I get one for a smaller tank? Meaning not but the size for a 29gallon because I also have a sponge?

Sponge plus HOB filter for 29 gallon with Betta

Hello- I am looking for suggestions for a HOB filter with low flow. I have a 29 gallon tank with a Betta, a bristlenose pleco, a couple yo-yo loaches, and green neon tetras. I also have a medium size sponge filter and an existing HOB filter that came with the aquarium. I’m worried the flow is...

    Air Pump Check Valve Placement

Greetings - I learned the hard way that my air pump, bubbler set-up was not ideal. I can’t have the pump above the tank; I have to have it near the floor, below the tank. About a year ago, the air tube popped off the check valve (on the aquarium side of the check value). This created a siphon...

Bubbler hose siphoned water flooding my living room.

Got it! That makes a lot of sense now. Thanks!

Bubbler hose siphoned water flooding my living room.

Ok well I was using a check valve so that didn’t help as the hose popped off the valve. And it’s not feasible for me to have the pump higher than the tank. Is that the only way?

Bubbler hose siphoned water flooding my living room.

Hi all - I’ve had this Imaginarium air pup and bubbler wand that periodically the hose would pop off. Usually not a problem but incredibly annoying. Tried everything to keep the hose on, even tiny zip ties. Well last night the hose popped off, but this time siphoned water draining the tank...

    Beginner issues - Please Help!

The remaining 8 Glofish tetras seem to be doing better today. The water change yesterday was good and I think the Prime is helping. Didn’t know I should use that daily though. I thought only with new water.

Okay wow. I didn’t know the “fix” meds were bad for Gouramis. I’ve only read that they’re bad for Bettas. Good to know and I wonder if my use of those is what killed my DG vs the other issue of incycle… ugh. Now that I recall the DG was looking perfectly fine until after I used those. It was...

I’ve now completed a 50% water change and treated the new water with Prime (actually had on hand from caring for the goldfish over the summer). Hopefully this works. I’ll stop using Pimafix and Melafix I guess. Greg
