    stocking my 60l

Agreed, essjay. Now, the 60L tank. What are the pH and the GH? It'll help us come up with better recommendations.

    6.5 tank + 8 fish + 1 snail please help

As essjay said, the same rules would apply. There's simply not enough space for them to have territories and safety, and they are a hyperaggressive version of their wild cousins (who still need large territories). essjay's point about the female betta potentially needing separated from the...

    6.5 tank + 8 fish + 1 snail please help

For now, the bettas may get along fine. Usually, due to stress, they take some time to become aggressive again. My first boy betta didn't flare at his reflection for a few days after I got him, and the other still doesn't (they are in separate tanks). But if you keep them in this tank together...

    20 gallon stocking ideas?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but based on the dimensions, you actually have a 15 gallon tank. According to the aqadvisor calculator, which takes into account the bioload of fish rather than just their size, you are at 100% capacity for fish.

    29 Gallon Stocking Advice

Thank you for the advice. I think I'll stick to hatchetfish; they've grown on me as I see more of them and read more about them. I really appreciate the advice. I'll up the hatchets to 8-9, like you suggested. I know one LFS carries Bolivian rams and the albino bristlenose, and another the...

    29 Gallon Stocking Advice

Thank you so much for your response! Your tank is absolutely beautiful, and your advice with the plants regarding cycling helped me help the dying betta fish my best friend fell in love with yesterday in a Petco. He's doing much better now in a 3 gallon with a filter and lots of live plants, and...

    29 Gallon Stocking Advice

Hello all! While I'm not *exactly* new to the hobby, after doing a lot of reading I've discovered that I'm new to keeping fish correctly (as in, all those years I was keeping fish as a child, I was basically running to the pet store, thinking 'this is pretty,' and getting extremely lucky that...

There are lots of different types of corydoras, with different bio-impacts; what type are you considering?

Close Encounters of the Bird Kind

Hello all! I recently brought home a male betta fish named Aidan. He lives very happily in the ten-gallon tank on my desk... the desk that also happens to be the favorite stomping ground of my young ESA cockatiel Cassie. Cassie approaches the tank, very curious about the small, shiny...

    Pregnant or not?

Pregnancy is a possibility, as livebearers (such as platys and guppies) can store sperm after mating and become pregnant multiple times after one mating. There is a spot directly in front of the anal fin that has become prominent in your girl; it looks like a little bump. This would suggest that...

    Betta with Pygmy Corys?

Thank you very much!! I was thinking along those lines--my boy seems quite happy alone in his new tank.

    Betta with Pygmy Corys?

Hello all! I recently revived my ten-gallon tank after several years of disuse, and decided to bring home a betta fish. He's a very shy little fellow so far. I love him, and I wouldn't want to cause him stress (or stress any other fish), so I want some second opinions--would adding pygmy...
