I know that they are going extinct in the wild due to habitat loss. It is fortunate that we are not getting them wild caugjt and adding to that population decrease even more.
African tetras in general. They grow larger than the more commonly availabe tetras and are very underrated.
Some of my favourites are the classic Congo tetra, Phenacogrammus aurantiacus and Arnoldichthys spilopterus.
Specific species is Barbonymus altus. Can be distinguished from the other commonly traded species, Barbonymus schwanenfeldii, by the lack of 2 black stripes on the upper and lower lobe of the caudal fin.
Take care not to feed shrimp too often. The high thiaminase content can have negative effects on your fish.= over time. Feed it as an occasional treat and not as a staple.
Giant snakeheads (Channa micropeltes) are best kept without tankmates.
The only way you can have tankmates is:
1. The tankmates have been with the snakehead since young (doesn't always work out either)
2. The tankmate is another giant snakehead (either they grew up together or are a male-female...
Ctenolucius hujeta are very easy to get onto pellets in my experience. I have had 8-9 over the years and all of them adapted to pellets within the first week of having them.
The turtle food and terrapin food can be fed but not as the main staple.
Rainbow snakehead (Channa bleheri) feeds mainly on small fish and insects in the wild. You can culture some cockroaches or crickets for it or breed some livebearers.
