    Replacing a tank

I was able to get the new filter this weekend. Its an AquaClear 70. Should I run both on my old tank, or should I swap it out for my old filter? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Replacing a tank

Ok, that is perfect. I see that my LFS has the Aquaclear filters on sale this weekend, so I am going to pick one up and get it running on my current tank. Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Replacing a tank

Thank you. I’m going to do exactly the opposite. Lol. I’m going to put the new filter on my old tank, and run it until I switch. I’ve just realized that I need to make a new stand, as the one I have is not going to be long enough - I’ve decided on a 38 gallon. Sent from my iPhone using...

    Replacing a tank

If I choose to use a new filter, would it be better to squeeze the old filter media into the new tank, or actually place the old filter cartridge into the new filter with the new cartridge? Does the size of my new tank make any difference?

    Replacing a tank

Ok, I’m glad to hear that by switching the filter, I should be OK. I don’t have the room to do the slide, as you suggested, it I will set up the new tank for a few days in advance to let it settle. Attached is a picture of my tank. The filter on it is an Aquion 30, I think. I’m wondering if...

    Replacing a tank

I currently have a 20 gallon tall tank, that I’m looking to replace with a larger tank. I’m trying to figure out the best way to switch them, but I’m getting conflicting advice. My problem is that the new tank needs to go exactly where my current tank is. I’m wondering if it would be possible...

    Vacation disaster

Yes, my nitrite is always 0, and nitrates are usually somewhere around 20, so this sunrises me. I usually have a KH closer to 30. My PH usually sits somewhere around 6.5 or so, so I find this really low. I cleaned out as much of the organics as I could and skipped last nights feeding. Since...

    Vacation disaster

Ok. This is good to know. I currently just have a lot of panda corys and some cardinal tetras in this tank (and a lot of pest snails) - so I will see where the levels need to be. I used the test this morning for ammonia, and it is high This is the first time since I set up this tank that...

    Vacation disaster

Ok. Yes, I plan to replace what is missing from my kit. I do have an individual ammonia test kit, and I will do that in the AM. I have the test strips for PH, and that will have to do until I can get the proper test. Thank you so much. I'll test the water before water change tomorrow, and...

    Vacation disaster

We went away for a week, and a neighbour looked after our tank while we were away. I came back and it is a disaster. I had to put one of my fish down, as a parasite was growing on its face and eating out it's eyes. There seems to be some small white bugs all over the place. They are smaller than...

    Water issue

I usually just clean the obvious debris off the top of the sand. I don't go too deep, as my corys stir it up pretty well. But I'm happy to leave it alone - lol. Thank you.

    Water issue

I should clarify. This new established tank that I moved my betta into does have a lot of live plants. I did not, however, have this issue until I moved the betta and his moss balls into the tank. Thank you for this advice. I will be sure to "vacuum" it off the top of the water when I do the...
