Leopard danios are just color morphs of zebra danios so a regular zebra danio or its many other morphs(albino,longfin,etc.) would work.

Well if your tank is understocked you could try upping the school. If you don't already have a school of at least 5 or 6 the nipping may be due to that. This will also spread aggression between each other instead of tank mates.

Well danios are known fin nippers and it's likely that it was them. If you have any sharp decorations they may also be the culprits.

Honestly in my opinion it's not fair to get a fish just to use as a cleaner which should be your job. Anyways if you posted your tank size and stats im sure some more experienced person will come assist you. :)
