Very poorly betta

my black betta has lost all his colour he seemed ok in himself though till yesterday and now he is just sitting at the top of his tank only going down every few hours. does this happen with black bettas or is there something wrong ? Have added some melafix just incase but he is still a weird grey colour. He also seems to be tail biting but not too much. He isn't stressed by anything in my room and is in a tank on his own, Which he was quiet happy in until now.

Any ideas ??

Will post water later as have run out and off to the shop now.
