Trimming Plants

I have just recently planted Java Fern in my tank that's cycling. I've noticed some new shoots growing as they are much greener than the older leaves. I've also noticed that some of the older leaves are brown. Is it safe to trim away the browner leaves to promote more growth, and what's the safest way to do that?

Yes you can trim the leaves when they start to get brown...i do this on my Java fern and it comes out bigger everytime...pruneing the plant wont hurt it..in fact when you cut back the leaves you are helping it grow...

So what's the best way? Just sticking my hand in my tank with a pair of scissors?

The old leaves will probably grow plantlets for you. You may want to just leave them on if that interests you.

i just have a pair of scissors that are only for that reason...works fine for me
