I have just recently planted Java Fern in my tank that's cycling. I've noticed some new shoots growing as they are much greener than the older leaves. I've also noticed that some of the older leaves are brown. Is it safe to trim away the browner leaves to promote more growth, and what's the safest way to do that?

Yes you can trim the leaves when they start to get brown...i do this on my Java fern and it comes out bigger everytime...pruneing the plant wont hurt it..in fact when you cut back the leaves you are helping it grow... :D
