i'm not sure what happened, but i had gotten a female guppie. Looked great. After a few days, the tail looked like a saw blade, like it was eaten, but nothing in the tank would do that. Also, the guppie is swimming at the surface alot.

possible bacteria infection?

Could be bacterial or fungal fin rot.

The way people attempt to fix the problem:
Antifungal meds with water changes (good tank conditions)
Hm, funny thing is that my source doesn't attribute finrot to fungal infections...

If that doesn't work, move on to antibiotics, for the infection is of a bacterial, not fungal, nature.

Perhaps it might be better to just go straight to the antibacterial meds...

Are you sure nothing else would shred your guppies fins? Other fish in the tank?
