We have a mickey platy that I beleive is pregnant. I can see the gravid and she looks plumper to me (wife not so sure). What I'm curious about is on our black molly. What distinguishes her as pregnant (when it happens)? Does she just get plump?

From what I've read, pretty much. Unfortunately, if you have a fish that you cannot see a gravid spot on (because of coloring), you pretty much have to go by behavior and body type.

If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me. :)

I find that is sometimes helps to take pictures of them. Because at the start of some pregnancies, the plumpening (is that a word?) is so gradual, you may not notice it at first. So if you have dated pictures to compare against, that helps. Also, if she gets enormousely fat, and starts squaring off, then thats an obvious indication that she is not only pregnant, but very close.
