I currently have a fluval u1 filter, just the sponge in.
I've upgraded to a cannister filter from 'All Pond Solutions' I got the EF-150.
Now do I just swap the filter and the old water will cycle it? Do I leave both filters in for now?
Never swapped filters before & never had one with Bio-Balls.
Finally I got given 1 litre of new K1 media from the LFS, can I use this in the EF-150? Instead of bio-balls?

If your tank is already cycled I would run both filters side by side for a few weeks and then put your mature sponge into the new external filter.

With canister filters it doesn't realy matter what media you use it's your choice. I personally use ceramic rings in mine.

The simplest way is to put the U1 media into the new filter in the section where the bioballs go and fill any space left in that section with bioballs. Use the APS sponges where they are meant to go; they'll be home for bacteria as well as the bioballs. After a couple of months, when you need to clean the filter, remove the U1 media and add the bioballs that had to be left out.
