Hi everyone.

A great forum.

I have just put a new piece of Bogwood into my tank, I did soak it for a week before hand. But it has bled into the tank and now the water has a brown tinge. Does anyone know if this will cause any problems?

Thanks.

No, it will not harm your fish or your plants.

This orange tinge is called Tannin, and your bog wood releases it over a period of time. To properly remove it from your water it is advisable to soak it for several months before you add it too the water.

water cahnges will get rid over a period of time, also boiling the wood sucks out the tannins much faster then just osaking it, so maybe take it out and boil it for a few hours changing the water every now and then. i did that and now the leak much less

My fish love the tannins, I have never soaked my wood for more than a couple of days and it does go eventually through regular water changes. Carbon in your filter can have an effect on it, if its really bugging you, otherwise, leave it.

Welcome to the forum BTW
