over past week or so tank has become covered in brown algae.
Anyone have any ideas whats causing it and how I can fix it?

Give us more details, like water parameters, tank size, fishes, etc

Brown algae is usually caused by insufficient light, so you might try more lights on for a longer period of time.

P.T.

only idea ive got, mite be way out is if you have position ur tank in a way that it get too much sunlight it seems to make the algae grow rapidly.

tank is 63 litres
has 1 female guppie, 2 mickey mouse platys, 2 kribs and 5 neon tetras.
water has 0 amonia, 0 nitrite and 20 nitrate.
I do weekly partial water changes, its out direct sunlight and tank light is on about 8-10 hours a day

How long has the tank been set up? How often and how much do you feed them? Do you clean the gravel , when you do a water change?

tank has been set up about a month they are fed once or twice daily and I have a gravel filter that I use when doing water changes
