Hey guys im pretty much new here, and im thinking of getting a new betta.s but to breed this time! this is what space i currently have

room to 2 at a push 3 fem's in my comunity (plats, neon and plec - not great huh!)
an empty 10g and il be getting a 8g hex - i'l also be able to get hold of plenty of jars for my beauty babies when they are big enough!

Is this enough room to start off with? i want to use the 10 to breed and grow up in, and the 8g hex to separate and keep 2 males in (if i can separate it well so they get enough room)

will 3 females and 2 males be enough to try and get a spawn out of?? out of all the 5 i want to get completely different colours and finnage - see if i cant get some interesting kids!

My water is pH 8 and fairly hard :X will they want to "get it on" in that water?

I'm not worrying about breeding them for the moment, just getting everything sorted perfect so when im ready i can completely learn it, and hopefully get it right in one go!

Cheers

You are going to need a large growout tank, minimum 40 gallons. A 10 gallon is not enough to raise them to near adults. Or at least a couple of 20 gallons minimum. I currently have a 45 and 20 gallon to use as growout tanks and even with those I'll need to keep my spawns under 100 (so I'll need to cull alot for large spawns).

Righto! Theres possible scope for making my garage into a bit of a fish room once i can figure a way out of keeping the temperature constant

I was aware that spawns were gonna be huge and that the 10'd not do!

Cheers though

And if i do get a large spawn how does one go about culling humainly? + at what age? before they've hatched?

Good luck, I'm sure you'll figure something out, I did. It's amazing how all this has developed for me, starting from just wanting 1 or 2 males as pets and now I've turned a bedroom into a heated fish room and I'm getting ready to set up barracks in the one spot that's left in the room, Lol It's amazing how much you can fit into a small area when you set your mind to it. But it's been a blast, I enjoy everything about the hobby, the water changes, feedings etc., it's all very relaxing to me, and I'm getting it all down to a science, so doesn't take nearly as much time as it used to. My first spawn is now 2 months old and I'm starting to be able to sex the larger Juvi's, so far I'm sure of 5 of them, 3 males and 2 females, the others are still a bit small to be sure. It's just amazing they started out as those teeny tiny little things in the bubblenest :)

Keep us updated as to your progress at getting setup :)
