I would say water from soft to moderately hard would be fine , PH FROM 6.5 TO 7.5 , fish Are pretty adaptable.

Is it true that the difference between Sparkling Gourami's and Croaking Gouramis's is that Sparkling have a round tail and Croaking have a slightly pointed tail?

Im not sure which i have but mine are really peacefull and dont bother other fish, and they are fine in my water which is hardish and a PH of 6.8

Never seen them try and jump tho....
