:alien: i was wondering how old swordtails have to be before they get pregnant. i have 8 babys sword tails (all look like females so far) they are 2 months old.My male swordtail (fully grown) is trying to mate with 3 of the bigger ones im just curious if ill be having more babies soon. if anyone can help id be very greatful thanks

They have to be at least an inch in length before they will become pregnant, as with most livebearers the males will only develop there reproductive organs characteristic gonopodium and in the swordtails case sword after being at least 1" in length.

I reckon at two months old they must be nearing 2 months old. Their initial fry batches will be small <10 fry but I would expect within about 3 weeks for you to be getting your first batches of fry from the youngsters bearing in mind fertilisation and fry growth inside the womb takes about 3 weeks.
