I have 4 fully grown (5.5") Hoplos that are nearing 2 years in my tanks.
I was trying to breed them for 6 months now, with the proper setup in a 55g tank by themselves.

But now am thinking that they all are female, because the all get along together wonderfully well with zero aggression, ever!
Plus now of the have extra think bones on their pectoral fins...and No characteristic hooks at all.

However one, at least, goes upside down and wiggles under my floating lid every now and then...and there is a medium size single bubble in it.

How can this be?
Will females, in the absence of a male, do that?
I know there would be no fertilization without males, but I'm mystified by the behavior.
Can anyone tell me about this, please?
