I have had 4 zebras in my 46g for a while. I've been working on setting up and growning my plants that I havent gotten fish in a while. Since everything is going smooth with my plants, i want to get more loaches. ive been looking at the yoyo's.

i know loaches can be territorial, so would it be a problem if i keep 2 different species together?

General answer is no problem, if these are generally peaceful loaches (not skunks) of about the same size -- I have 5 species in the same tank and they coexist just fine, basically ignoring each other, and mostly sharing the same hiding spaces.

I have found several loaches that are mean and like to be alone. I had a bad experience with Botia beauforti and had to take them back. Botia Striata and YoYo's should be fine together. I have also found that each loach has its own personaility. I have kept them together with no problem.

The following is a list of loaches that are in my 82G tank

6x Botia almorhae, 2x Botia modesta, 4x Botia Angelicus,
7x Botia macracanthus, 5x Botia striata, 3x Syncrossus helodes,
1x Syncrossus berdmorei & 2x Schistura mahnerti.

they all live happily together without any problems.

Wow. You are brave...three on your list are semi-aggressive I've been avoiding .... but maybe I'm too paranoid....

Question, if I may ask: what is the behavioral difference between Yoyo's (almorhae) and PolkaDots (Angelicus), if any?

(I finally got four tiny (<1in) yoyo's today!!!...after looong search....and the first impression, probably wrong, is that it is pretty much the same fish with slightly different markings. And is four enough, or is six better?---they do seem to shoal a bit)

I find the yoyos more active/playfull than the angelicus.
as for the semi-aggresive loaches, there is a large polypterus palmas palmas in there keeping them in check ;)

Oh yeah! They seem totally fearless, no hiding at all, and even swim around the barbs (which may prove to be the fatal mistake yet). They discovered the fun of floating above the airsource...Great little fishes...

Too scary to consider.... But Zebras are a must for my tank if I can find them....
