ive had 6 zebra danios in my tank for a few weeks now and they have always been very active, darting about the place, but about an hour ago, i introduces 2 ADFs to the tank and suddenly then are acting completely different. one of the ADFs is in the corner of the tank and 4 of the danios are all packed in next to it at the bottom and are not budging. the 2 other danios are in a different part of the tank but are also at the bottom just kinda sitting.

did the ADFs get my danios stoned?

edit: managed to get a pic of them, the ADF and another danio are on the other side of the rock

just seems weird seeing them all cramp up near it like that when they were never in one spot for more than 5 seconds before

Probably just curious of what it isthe adf.

ok even weirder, my tetras are starting to join them. the adf has swam off somewhere now.

I dont usually say this, but that is so cute!

Im not sure what the problem is though. Have you been feeding them well? are the ADF's attacking them or scaring them?

Odd behaviour. hope everything goes well! Take out the ADF/s and see if there is a change...

yea the fish are well fed and the adf was just kinda sitting there like "WTF do u want?"

ill take out the adfs if it continues

now floating ADFs in a bag and yet the odd behavior is continuing. water stats are all good.. dont know whats going on :S

I would say its cos the fishes are scared - don't know what the adf is and assume its a threat.

Even if you take the adfs out they will still be v timid for a while, till hunger forces them to venture out and they see the coast is clear.

ok that is very very weird.

My zebras blatently rubbered the ADFs when I added them and said "Where's my booming food?" to me as one did a wee jump (usualy sign of feed me for these guys).

Did you add the LFS/LPS water from the bag to your tank? There may be even a small change in minerals/hardness/ph etc that can send them off like that. Either that or there is an illness with the ADFs that are not apparent to you yet but they know about it.

nope, i never add lfs water. though it is times like this i wish i had a quarantine tank :S

just to update on this situation, i noticed this morning that the fish were all swimming about like normal and thought yay, they must have bonded with the ADFs :p

turns out the ADFs have swam into the top of the filter and set up camp in there instead :/ think i may just take them back.

That's weird! LOL! I have 8 zebra danios in my 33 gallon, and I have never seen them stop moving for even a second. But I am willing to bet they got spooked, along with your tetras, and were all huddling together for support and comfort.

this is totally the weirdest thing i have ever read about zebra danios - ive only observed them stop moving when they are: ill or dead. and when dead, they still floated about...

i know it is very weird indeed. now that the ADFs are 'livin in the filter', all the fish are fine and swimming about as normal. if they were ill, i didnt treat them :S
