OK - In recent weeks, I have noticed that my tank water has taken on a "yellow" tinge to it. I have updated my 20% weekly changes to 30-40% weekly, and whilst for the first day or two, things looks ok, the yellow comes back. I have checked amongst my plants to see if I have anything rotting in there..Nothing.. I have checked for an algae outbreak, but can find none.
Could this be related to my inclusion of a piece of redmoor wood for AE? Does anyone else have any experience. I know that mopani wood etc leeches tanins into the water.. I had a piece before the redmoor and it was no way near as eveident at this.

Am I doint something wrong..? Water stas are fine. (hence cannot be bothered to quote), I have also uped the filtering on the tank to see if that make a difference.. what are my option..

Carbon - Not over keen.
The new Azoo alage away spong from AE??... States it removes colourants....

What do you think... Is there something wrong with the tankl.. The fish appear fine.

Any help gratefully received.

:good:

Yes ; Wood will color the water. Carbon in your filter will take the color out. The carbon will wear out and you will have to replace it. Don T.

Will Carbon really make that much difference. If so, is this something that I would notice immediatley, or over time?

As long as the fish are ok, and you don't mind the colour, then it is perfectly harmless, in fact some say the tannins out of the wood are actually beneficial to fish. Keep doing regular water changes, and the tannins will dilute, until eventually the wood will not let any more out.

Carbon is the quickest way of removing it, but you do need to do water changes too if you really want rid of it.

you sure you not getting drunk and peeing in it

Just be sure not to overstock the tank with your own waste as well! A large external filter might do the trick!

I may have passed yellow water where I shouldnt have in the past, however... rest assured, having to climb 6ft into the air just to pee into my tank, would hopefuly mean that no matter how many water changes I had put my body through throughout that evening, it just would not happen.

Looking at my profile, I would say I'm bang on the stocking levels, and appart from the Angel and Cacatuoides, I really dont have that many large fish in the tank, so urine output should be low.

Or were you taking the P***?

Or were you taking the P***?

No really, as long as the fish are healthy it should be harmless, just do regular water changes to reduce the colouration, it will reduce in time.

Sorry - the were you taking the P*** statement was a poorly linked joke to the discussion on urinating in the tank. I took your points seriously. I just dont like the colour thats all.. I guess I will just have to up the water changes again..

Cheers  :drinks: :drinks: :drinks:
