Well having moved some furniture around I have made a spot for one of the 12g tanks I have spare. Most of my tanks have been community tanks so that is off the list for the most part (any community fish I would be interested in are too big for this tank).

I have a marine nano with a bigger reef tank being put together so a marine tank is out.

Other then that though I would be interested in some suggestions. Dont mind doing brackish (which is something I haven't done before) and it could be an invert tank rather then fish. A species only tank with some interesting fish would be cool. I'm not new to fish keeping by the way so confident enough to keep most things and also dedicated enough to keep it maintained.

Some things I was thinking of. Some I know enough about to know they will be fine, others are just wild ideas I haven't researched yet so feedback is welcome:
A lowtech planted tank with two dwarf puffers in, lots of wood, vines and plants, nothing else in the tank.
A crayfish tank (just an idea with no research done on it yet), rockwork/caves, nothing else in the tank.
Cichlid tank - Not sure what ones, nots rams or kribs (have rams in my community tank and have bred kribs before).
Betta Tank - Maybe split off into 2-3 sections for males or a female only tank (might be a bit to small for this though and if I keep bettas then it would be to breed them, so probably a no here).
Large filter feeding shrimp - Set up a fast flow in there and get some large filter feeding shrimp (would depend on what I can get ordered in). Possibly with hillstream loaches (haven't researched these but know a fast flowing rockey based setup would be good).

So yeah, after some interesting critters, doesnt have to be a tank rammed full of livestock. If there is only 1 thing in there that is fine.

Crayfish will cannabalize, and eat other plants. WHy dont you try some Dwarf Cockatoo Cichlids? Here is a link: http://www.gcca.net/fom/fom_pix/Apistogramma_cacatoides_2
You could easily get a harem in there. Maybe 2 or 3 female adn a male( must have good filtration in there though)

Might not be very clear but all of them ideas wheren't in the tank at the same time. :) The cray fish would be kept by itself with rock/wood (lots of hidy holes) and nothing that will get hurt by being moved around (I understand they like to arrange their own furniture :) ).

I do like Cockatoo Cichlids and apistos in general actually and they where some of the ones I was considering.

What about some hillstream loaches. You could get like 6 and breed them.

Yeah I was thinking about these (hadn't thought about breeding them though). Will have to take a look into that. They are interesting fish and they are ones that I also wouldnt have any problems with selling the fry on afterwards so if I can breed them finding homes for them wouldnt be an issue. Will have a read up on them a bit more, thanks.
