well i got anouther 3 ft tank 20 gal ready for setting up and i was just thinking some small colourful fish

8 neon/cardinal tetras

6 sunset plattys

3 (m) guppies

6 (f) guppies

4 cory cats
 
Yes.

You should try to keep to one inch of fish per gallon. So try to think of 20inches of fish can fit in that tank.
You will also want to keep in mind what you are going to do with the fry.

You could have.....

7 Platies & 8 Neon/Cardinal Tetras

The 9 guppies and the 6 platies.

6 Tetras and 9 guppies

4 Mollies and 8 tetras

I would do one of the following combinations above. I have had the combination of guppies and neons together and they work great!
Mollies prefer salt in the water as this helps keep them from being stressed.
 
That would definitely be overstocked, especially wit that many livebearers. You would have a new batch of fry about every 3 days (based on a 2/4 ratio of m/f platys). Basically any scenerio with that many livebearers is going to produce a lot of fry that you would have to deal with. Even if you leave them and let the other fish eat them, some will still survive.
