Generally, if you do not want snails, then its a good idea not to buy plants in a tank in LFS where you see lots of snails.

Pond or common snails tend to lay eggs anywhere, including plant leaves.

A good clean of plants before adding to your tank may help eliminate these from entering your tank but not guaranteed.

But where you are, South Africa, I have no idea what kind of snails they may be to be honest.

Perhaps ordering plants online from a reputable store that delivers anywhere might be a better option for you?

I bought an amazon sword from a LFS and cleaned off all of the snails.  Then the eggs hatched and I have an abundance of them through the tank (keeps me busy at night sorting them from the Mystery Snails and disposing of them, I guess).

Not recommended if you can get plants from a cleaner (snail free) shop.

i have no idea what snails they are but they are small and brown with pointy shells.

I have the option of getting assassin snails to take care of any pest snails that get into the tank so it doesn't bother me a bit to buy from a place that has pest snails. You may not have the luxury of getting assassin snails in South Africa.

I have heard that a dip in a weak concentration of bleach is effective. Just remember to rinse plant thoroughly afterwards.
