I have a sunset platy and it has always looked really healthy. I noticed yesterday that it has a red spot on its side and it looks like the scales are sticking out in that area. It stopped eating and would just rest at the bottom of the tank. Today it is swimming around again but is still not back to its old self. I don't know what is wrong or how I can treat it. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

We need more information.

How big is the tank, what else is in it and how long has it been set up? Is it cycled?
What country do you live in? (The treatments to recommend vary from country to country).
Is the red spot white in the middle or round the edges? Is there any sign of fluff or fuzz on or near it?
Is the platy too thin?
Is there any sign of white fuzz or 'fraying' on the mouth, or white edges or rot on the fins?

Once we have that info we can probably make a better diagnosis. Thanks!

My tank is 10 gallons and I only have one black neon tetra in the tank with it. I have had the tank for almost a year. I live in the US. The platy doesn't look thin but it has a big bulge in the side where the red spot is. It doesn't have any white fuzz or fraying on the mouth and its fins are normal but there is some white that showed up underneath the red spot today.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Epson salt baths for the bloating.
Bacterial med for the red spot.
Does the red spot look like it's ulceratiing the skin away.

You need to issolate the fish if you can and use a good bacterial med if the spot ulcerating the skin away.

What looks like little white fuzz balls has appeared near his tail fin and on top of his head. Will T.C. Tetrcycline take care of that as well?

Yes it should do.
Tetracycline will wipe the benefical bacteria out in the filter, as you using the antibiotic in issolation.

Sorry bless him.
R.I.P.
