my little brother wanted to start a little 10 gallon freshwater tank with mainly neon tetra's and a few plants. and he was wondering if he could put in some dry branchs of wood to make the tank look better, or would the wood rot in the tank? thanks in advanced

they sell driftwood at my not-so-local fish store but it's really expensive. i'd feel safer buying it from the store than picking it out of the yard or something. and if you get them out of the yard, they may float. i was told if you get driftwood you have to let it soak for a while so it'll sink. that's why i didn't bother with it. if you do go with it, i'd love to see some pictures though.

driftwood is safe. but most limbs are not safe. if all the bark is off and you put it in a microwave for just a little amountof time to kill everything and then soak it in salt water with quick cure in it then it MAY be ok to use. but you can never really tell what it could have coming from the wild. also, it may rot a bit. thats why real old driftwood is better, because it won't rot.

i would get driftwood or fake wood from a store instead. :good:

Don't use anything aomatic, don't use anything overly soft. Get the wood and sand it well, then bake it in the oven at 250 for half an hour(unless it starts to smoke, then pull it out) Good luck.
