I just added a bunch of plants to my tank this morning, and when I came home after my Easter festivities I found that a few of them were being munched on. Well after watching for a little bit, I found it was my Buenos Aries tetras that were doing the pruning. I finally got them out, after removing half of the plants of course! Anyway, I have given some fish to a neighbor boy, he is 12 and bought a tank at a yard sale, but doesnt have money for fish, so I gave him some to get a start anyway.

Which it all comes back to me always wanting Congos, so here is my chance.
My only question is if they will eat my plants? Everything else seems to be leaving them alone, and would like to keep it that way. Or any other ideas of Tetras that will be happy, and leave my plants happy too?

I've only seen my Congos (well, really only a single Congo) occasionally nibbling on the tip of a Pygmy Chain Sword. I've got Ruffled, Red Rubin and Amazon Swords, Ludwigia, Vals, and a small patch of Bacopa. These are all left alone as was some Cabomba and Anacharis I had previously in the tank.

My Congos leave the plants alone apart from the occasional nibble which causes them no harm.

I don't regard Congo's as plant eaters. Many species will have the occasional nibble, but in this case, it goes no further.

Ok great! As for the rest of my fish, they might have a nibble here or there, but the Buenos Aries tetras had taken about half the leafs off of the bunch of hygrophilia and had started on the Ludwigia... Hopefully one of my 2 trusted stores havesome Congos this weekend!

Buenos Aires are the lawnmowers of the tetra world.

My LFS has a West African tank with Congos in it. They have simply amazing coloration. The price is usually pretty steep though. :(

BA's certainly like their greens, but if you really want to see a characin destroy a planted tank, try a couple of Silver Dollars!
