White Stuff!

Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone knows what is growing on the outside of my tank. Theres this hard white "calcium" looking stuff growing all over the outside of my tank except for on the glass. The only place it is growing on the inside is in the filter compartment. It scratches off with a finger nail and is kinda chalky. I tried searching the web for ideas but came up empty. Anyone here have any? thanks.

it's just mineral deposits from the water, but i don't know what exactly the make-up of it is

Yeah my tank is not filled completely to the top and most of the empty part of the glass has this "white stuff" on it. But I got used to it, not much you can do except fill it up with water. Unfortunately I can't do that because I have a turtle and it needs a basking area. So, what Im planning to do is build an outside basking area ...

Have you guys ever tried to clean it off and if so what did you use??

I get that... but only on my Brackish/Marine tank!
