Hi all,
Tank size: 120 litres (jewel rio)
pH: Don't know
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 20
kH: Don't know
gH: Don't know
tank temp: 23 in morning, 26 by evening, 24 current

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
I woke up this morning to find that two of the neons have a white spot on their face (about 1mm diameter) and two of the other neons appear to have some sort of dull white fungal infection around their mouth. It's difficult to take a photo but you can just about see the white spot on one of the neons.

They seem to be behaving and shoaling as normal.

I appreciate that there is a large amount of info available on this website but I dont feel comfortable diagnosing the condition by myself.

Volume and Frequency of water changes:
25% every other week

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:
Nothing. I just use tetra aquasafe.

Tank inhabitants:
I have a 120l tank which has been setup for about a year. It has 12 tetras (6 glowlights, 6 neons), 2 angels, 2 gouramis, 4 zebra danions and a plec.

I feed them flake during the week and two frozen fish cubes a day at weekends.

I have a lot of malaysian trumpet snails.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
Nothing within last 4 months.

Exposure to chemicals:
I measured the nitrate a few weeks ago and it was above 80. I obviously hadnt been changing enough water and I take responsibility for that. I think the fact that I had fed them some live bloodworm and tubiflex may have been a contributing factor. It is now down to 20 and i did another 25% change this morning.

Digital photo (include if possible):

Sorry it's not an ideal photo but you can just about see a white spot on the neon.

Does anyone know what the condition might be and the best course of action? Unfortunately I dont have quanrantine tank facilities.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Seb

From the pic, that looks very similar to what some of my Pearl Danios have had and one still has three months on...

I went through Melafix; Pimafix; Myxazin; Protozin (with water changes as instructed by each mediaction) and nothing got rid of it. Given that if my fish had columnaris (which was my initial reaction) and the temperature of the water was above 24C, the fish would be expected to die within a few days. At present, this spot on my Pearl is presumed to be viral, for which there is no cure. But having said that, this fish in question is as colouful and active as the other 10!

If you are in doubt to what the spot is, carefully net your fish and take it to a trusted LFS or fellow fish keeper for a second opinion ;)
