Okay, same guppy as before...

The day she gave birth, the white spot on her lip vanished. Well, now there's a new one, this time on her back. Because the fry are isolated in a large net breeder in the same tank, I change the water about every other day (it gets pretty grody if I don't), and all my levels are where they should be. She seems fine and healthy otherwise, but looks pregnant again, and there are no other spots on her or any of the other fish in there.

Is this just some weird thing guppies do??? Should I just ignore it and continue what I've been doin'?

This is not normal.I dont know exactly what happened before with your female, but I am going to assume shes sick.Wether a fungus or any type of bacterial desease I dont know. There are medications that treat both at the same time. You should isolate the infected animal, but since the fry and/or others have been exposed to the illness, you should keep her there and treat her with the rest of your community fish.

Ramesses~Are those meds safe for the babies? If so, do you have specific meds to suggest? I have an antifungal med I can try, plus when she got the first spot, I immediately thought ick, and treated the tank for that for 3 days straight... but it didn't do any good, and since there was only one with no sign of anything else, I finally discontinued. Then, as soon as she had the babies, it just went away, disappeared. Everybody else seems just fine, even her...

What do you know of these types of things and salt treatments? That has always been one of my first lines of defense; a natural cure for most fish ailments, I've found...

I've read other posts where people say they've had the same experience, and seemed just as perplexed.

This is my first experience with guppies; they're my 4-yr-old daughter's, and she absolutely adores them. But I'm a little clueless about their ailments here. :)

There are a few things I have to tell you.If in fact your gup has "ick",remember that this desease is created by a parasite.Ick is a solid spot,it looks like a grain of salt.Fungus shows a cotton-like appearance, similar to a mold found on fruits.
Thats why I was suggesting using a medicine that controls both fungul and bacterial infections. It is very difficult for anybody to tell sometimes what is causing the illness.
Any chemicals introduced to your tank enviroment could be lethal to the fry, theres no doubt about it.You may want to isolate them and treat'em with smaller dosages in a different tank.
Another thing, make sure before you start treating your fish with any medicine that, you have optimun conditions in your tank.Temp. in the high 70's-low 80's;Ph is OK.levels of ammonia are ok as well, make sure you have a nice filter with "old "carbon, and this is very important, otherwise the medicine wont work.Follow instructions, indications usually tell you not to do water changes until after the treatment is over.
Yes I heard about salt in your tank to prevent many diseases,as a matter of fact, all my LFS's put salt in their tanks.Dont do it now though ,as any drastic changes in the water may cause distress in your fish thus creating another outbreak.
I would like to know how it goes.Good luck and I hope I could help
