I have 6 Tiger Barbs in my 15 gallon tank atm. I plan on the moving the barbs when they get bigger to a bigger sized tank. They are the only 6 fish in the tank atm and the top of the sand was starting to turn yellow? Is this normal fish waste or something I should be concerned about?

Umm, I really don't deal with FW that much, but if it is fish waste, I reccomend getting a better filter?

Wait for someone else with more experience to respond.

Most likely fish waste, since you don't have any fish that tend to submerge in the sand or shift it around be sure to give it a daily churning as sometime, some form of gas can develop (unless you have a sand filter) and this gas can kill your fish.

Also if you have added any chemicals to your tank these may be staining the sand. When I used a bright blue anti-ich treatment it stained some of my gravel and plants.

The only thing I've used is aquasafe to dechlorinate the water, so it must be fish waste. I've been holding off on getting a cory because I've been trying to find Khuli loaches in my area but have been unsuccessful at finding them. I might make a trip out of town to see if anyone has any and if I can't find any I'll get some cory's in place of them.

I figured it out I think. It's actually brown algae. Some is showing up on my stuff in there and it makes the sand look like the fish have urinated in it. I'll have to get a bristlenose catfish, ASAP along with some khuli loaches/cory's.

brown algae will start off in this way. it is a light yellow slowly turning a dark orange then brown.

^^^ Yep

I hope you're not "forced" to get bristlenose catfish and khuli loaches/cories just because of the sand issue. Just give it a good stir once in a while :good: However, if the bristlenose, khuli and cories are really in your stock list then have fun shopping! :D

Yeah, they've been in my shopping list. It's very hard to find bristlenose or khuli's around here for some reason. It's the major reason why I don't have any yet. I went 60 miles out of town last night to find some and no dice.
