There is a white film on the water surface in my 20g, the film also 'stains' the glass just above the surface.

The film breaks if you touch it but quickly covers over again. Apart from this the water is crystal clear, there is also a good amount of surface agitation.

Anyone got any ideas what this is and how i can get rid of it?

TIA

Chris.

Hi,

You can remove it by dragging a sheet of kitchen roll across the water surface. Not sure what causes it, one of my tanks used to get it all the time then stopped.

Emma :)

it's funny, a day or so after i read this post, i too had a white film on the surface of my tank water. i've removed it using a pint glass, but it came back again.

I've done that twice actually, but the paper towel idea seems like a good idea. i do wonder though what it is. doesn't seem to be hurting anything, but you never know.

The paper towel idea works well. I had no problems untill a couple of days ago when i noticed it again. Would be interesting to find out what causes it.

I get this on my Marine tank even though it has a lid? Maybe it's dust that can only be seen due the position of the tank in the sunlight or something? I dunno but I will try the paper towel idea on mine! :good:
