are white cloud minnows suited to a 5gal tank ? ( most fish websites seem to think so )
how many could i put in there? what else could i put in?
im going for a river kind of look , with fast flowing water

Really, Even though I blatently disregarded the rule (even though I think it to be on good grounds), an inch per gallon. Stick it to keeping 3-5 White Clouds in that tank. But see, I think that a schooling/Shoaling fish such as neons should be an exception. They keep together, so they really need less space in a tank, large or small. I Have a 10 gallon, and the neons i have in it stick together like glue, and ocupy about 1/4th at a time. So would 2.5 gallon be enough? I think it'd be crule. But 5 gallon sounds all right. And actually, if i put them in a 5'er, it'd be less crowded w/o the dragon goby/khuli loach/flying fox/Pleco/Chinese butterfly sucker, but more moving room = more power!

Neons only shoal tightly when they are stressed out, so if yours "stick together like glue" all the time, thats a bad sign that they aern't happy. The same would also be true for WCMM's.

I agree, neons shouldnt be tightly schooling (only when theyre scared by bigger fish, or your doing a water change)

5-6 white clouds would be ok for this tank imo, it should be ok for them since theyre so small, they produce hardly any waste. They dont need a heater either btw, they will be more active in a temprature around room temp.

I'm still gonna not advise WCMM's for a 5gal on this one, they are just too active for such a small tank (it would be like keeping danio's in a bucket)- even with the one inch of fish per gal rule of thumb, because they are shoaling fish you would need at least 6 of them, so that would be overstocking the tank considering the average size of WCMM is 1.5inches.

I agree with Tokis. Its very stressful to fast moving fish to keep them in anything less than 15 gallons whether its neons or white clouds.

id also agree, its not that they wouldnt fit ok in that tank , its that they need plenty of swimming space.
if i was you id go with one male betta as a better option. :D

yeah , tbh i was only considering them if i cant find any decent bettas , thanks for the advice . i dont suppose i could keep any neolamprologus multifasciatus < multis > in this tank , could i?
