ok so my cousin just got a new 30 gallon tank and once hes got it up and running i planned on giving him some fish from my 55 gallon. Right now he has a few assorted livebearers, an SAE, and a Syno. Ocellifer. So since he really likes fish and i need to ease the bioload on my big tank i thought it would be good to give him a few of my fish. We both get water from the same place so the PH is pretty high. in the ranges of 8. What i would like to know is which fish would be suitable for a 30 gallon tank with the livebearers. The ones i was thinking of were

RTBS
Gold Gourami
Rainbow cichlid- Yes mine is actually very calm.
Calvus (????)
Festivum

Seeing as my Severum doesnt always like these fish and he is the centerpiece fish The ones im most set on getting rid of are the rainbow cich, Gold gourami, and Festivum. The calvus doesnt bother anybody. And without those fish I have a perfectly balanced tank. The only other things in this tank are 4 pictus cats,a bichir, and a lima (yes i have a home lined up for him when he outgrows the tank). And without some of those bigger fishes i might have room for a nice pleco

any one have any info on this? i just found out that the only fish in there are the syno and SAE. and its a 50 gallon tank

hi, what size are his fish?? and what size are yours, i'm thinking if your fish were full grown and you intorduced them in with some smaller ones, they be a tasty bite to eat... if you see where i'm going....

yeah his fish are all around 3" and the largest fish i would give him is the rainbow cich which is around 4". the thing is supposedly one of the most peaceful cichlids along with the festivum. but the festivum killed 2 angels so there goes that. im wondering if its just because of the severum who is the most aggressive in the tank

hmm no idea, but i don't think mixing your and his would be a problem then, his 2 fish will max out at about 6 inches, i was thinking these fish may be new and about 1 inch, then to throw them in with a few 6 inch fish! hahahah! that wouldn't work... but anyway just take over what you want and add them over a few days to allow for the Bioload to catch up and to watch for any suspicious behavior because these are your fish so you should be used to thier normal behaviors and such, although they may seem kinda strange for the first little while because if they are tertorial, they would have been taken out of thiers and put into another tank, so don't be scared if they just sit around for the first little while..... also if there is any agression and fin nipping towards your firends fish that seems serious you may want to take them out and take them home or off to the LFS if you need to lessen your own tank.

anything else?

nope that pretty much covers it. None of the LFs's around here take trade ins so thats why i was going to give them to him. as well as that my rainbow really does not get along with the severum

I wouldn't give him the cichlid. I've never had one, but from some of the books I've read, they get aggressive when they get older. I've always had great success with gouramis and livebearers.

hmm i think the cichlid may cause a bit of problems as well but then again there are some fish that are known to be crazy and kill everything but the one you get may be the more docile then the live beareds themselves.. i've had some similar cases to this before, such as my 2 yello labs... they are both very young but on is about half the size of the other.... The small one OWNS the tank.... the bigger one is constantly being chased off and cowers away into his cave... the smaller is female and the larger is male so this confuses me but you just never know!!!.... i'm hoping that they might pair up and quit the nonsence! lol!

The RTBS should be ok as long as you make it clear not to get another. they have tendencies to be extreme to each other and the agression may take a few of the other fish out as well....

The golden gorami will again grow about 6 inches long... so smaller livebearers... watch out! lol! as long as nothing is mouthsize i can't see any problem there....

Calvus, that's a big mouth! that's all i'll say, refer to some current advise , i'm sure you'll get it! lol!

Festivum, it would all depend on agression and such,

see how they do, and give it a shot, and if they don't work.... I'll buy a Big tank because you got some nice looking fish in there, Ship them off to me!!! hahahaha!

well i decided to keep the calvus as hes only a couple inches.

The cichlid could cause a problem but since mine are of the least aggressive sort i think it will be ok. I'll probly stick some eggcrate in my cousins tank for a while to make sure theyre ok but theyre generally very nice to each other. I had a danio in there that never even got touched until i got my shovelnose. the only one they fight with is the severum.

dasmall- Yes that is true about most cichlids but the rainbow and festivum are both some of the most docile species. i know the festivum can eat other fish but its gotta be smaller than a full grown neon so i dont think that should be a problem. and the rainbow has never shown any signs of wanting to eat anyone else haha
